Working in the wilds of Yorkshire David draws and sketches waterfalls, bridges, barns and cottages in the wet, windswept dales. He then travels to the French Pyrenees to paint the rugged scenery of the high mountain peaks covered in snow and ice –even a few mountaineers. Finally, he chooses one of his sketches to work up into a full watercolour in his studio. The film is full of useful information and action-packed—as always he manages to have a few adventures along the way!
This DVD is also available packaged with David’s book “Painting Wild Landscapes in Watercolour". More info here...

Let’s start with the intrepid David Bellamy! His latest DVD, Wild Landscapes in Watercolour has all the excitement, variety, skilful demonstrations and helpful information that you could wish for in a film of this type. It is truly inspirational, even if, unlike David, you do not aspire to working in the wilds of Yorkshire or scaling the snow-clad peaks of the high Pyrenees.
The majority of the demonstrations are made on the spot and the range of ideas and techniques is impressive: sketching with pencil, and tone and wash sketching with watersoluble graphite pencils; drawing with charcoal (of Gordale Scar); pen and ink sketching; and monochrome and colour studies in watercolour. David also shows us how to sketch from the car (although this is not his usual practice) and how to work from the resource material back in the studio.

This book by David is a real joy to own and it has many wonderful examples of him painting on site. I heartily recommend it to anyone interested in his wonderful watercolour paintings.
